Introducing a new Friday series…. A Picture Says A Thousand Words.
We all have special pictures that mean so much to us. Pictures that speak to our hearts and tell a story. Anyone else may look at our favorite pictures and think nothing of it. But until we tell that story behind it we may be keeping another person from experiencing a blessing, receiving encouragement, inspiration, and sometimes maybe even giving them a good laugh.
I encourage you to share your own picture that says a thousand words in the comments below or with me on Facebook. Leave a little note as to why that picture is special. You never know, you may bless someone today.
At 23 years old Mike and I became parents. We were so young and were babies ourselves, yet we were so ready. We had quite a few touch-and-go scary moments during my pregnancy and I ended up delivering our tiny firstborn 5 weeks early. Our little preemie was perfect. Two days shy of exactly two years later we were blessed with baby boy #2. This pregnancy was a little easier for me, yet once again I went into labor early. God had his hand over both our boys. Another healthy, tiny, premature baby boy completed our family.
Mike’s dream was to have two boys. He would always make me laugh at how confident he was that he only made boys and how I needed to understand that no matter how many times we tried, we wouldn’t have a girl. A little girl would have definitely softened up my macho man, but God’s plan and even Mike’s silly plan was perfect. These two precious boys were the center of our world and life was good.
Of course, a little part of me always wondered and maybe even dreamed of what it may be like to have a daughter. I always pictured myself as a mom of girls. I assumed my days would be spent at the dance studio and at cheerleading practice. Instead they were spent on the baseball fields, at the basketball courts and riding dirt bikes. You know what? I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Mike got to live out his dream of having two boys. I got to help make his dream his reality. His boys get carry on his name and share their dad’s legacy. Being a boy mom is pretty darn cool too.
God always knows the desires of your heart… ALWAYS. God knew that I wanted to have more kids, yet Mike and I didn’t get that opportunity. God knew that being a boy mom was something I had begun to love, so adding another son to the mix someday would be icing on the cake.
God also knew that I had always dreamed of having a little girl. This picture is of my bonus daughter and I on the day I married her daddy. Our sweet daughter was our flower girl and we spent the day getting ready to walk down the aisle to her dad together. It was such a special time with so many sweet memories we now have to look back on.
From the first day I met her, I fell in love. Our connection was instant and loving her as my own was beyond easy and so natural.
From baking together, to manicures and pedicures, to braided hair and shopping trips…my world has been forever changed because of this precious gift. A gift from the Lord that I may never have experienced otherwise.
Beauty always comes from ashes when you allow the Lord to take control and lead you in the direction and path He has planned for your life. Through the hell and high waters that I went through, I can see every day another glimpse of the beauty God had planned to come out of it.
